A ‘possible’ return to normality for Quebec students

The Quebec minister of higher education, Danielle McCann, said last Monday that as long as 75% of youth, aged 16 to 19, receive two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine by the time school starts, physical distancing will no longer be required when they return to classrooms for the first time in more than a year, reports CBC News.

“There is now a real possibility that the start of the school year will be attended on college and university campuses in Quebec,” McCann said.

Students will be allowed to sit within one metre of each other in classrooms and as close as they want in common spaces, she said, but there are still a lot of students left to vaccinate first. So far, 42% of Quebec residents in this age group have received a first dose.
