14% of students are foreigners, says minister
Jordan’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Adel Al-Taweesi has said that 14% of students at his country’s universities are foreigners, reports the Middle East Monitor.According to Al-Rai, the minister revealed the figure during a meeting held to share expertise among Jordanian universities and academics. He added that his ministry is seeking to attract 75,000 students in the next two years. Attracting foreign students to come to Jordan, he pointed out, gives support to the state budget through their tuition and other fees.
It also increases the possibilities of cultural exchanges as foreign students are seen as ambassadors for their countries. Al-Taweesi also thanked the European Union for its support for higher education in Jordan through several cooperation programmes.
