UMass-Amherst poll probes public on immigration and HE

New polling reveals how Americans feel about many of President Donald Trump's signature immigration policies and his handling of higher education issues, reports Phil Tenser for WCVB.

A University of Massachusetts-Amherst national poll found that more than half of respondents somewhat or strongly oppose deporting legal immigrants who express views in opposition to domestic or foreign policies. And 43% said they somewhat or strongly oppose punishing foreign students for participation in protests against Israel’s war in Gaza. The poll is based on responses from 1,000 people and was collected between 25 and 30 July. The margin of error is 3.5%.

Of all the higher education policies included in the poll, support was strongest for the idea of requiring colleges to adopt new policies to protect students on campus. That was strongly or somewhat supported by 46% of respondents, although another 36% were neutral on the subject.
