State-run university in north-east to boost regional access

The second phase of development at the University of Kratie – the only state-run university in northeastern Cambodia – is now 70% complete and on track for full completion by July this year. The expansion will significantly boost access to higher education for communities in the region by accommodating more students and enhancing academic infrastructure, writes Ben Sokhean for Khmer Times.

This progress was highlighted during a joint media tour led by People’s Daily on Saturday, where Cambodian and Chinese journalists visited the university construction site and received a briefing from Chen Chao, project manager of the China-aided Phase II development.

“We are currently working on four main buildings and four dormitories,” Chen said, adding that the construction includes two dormitories for teachers, two dormitories for students, two basketball courts, a campus rainwater drainage system, a sewage treatment system, and upgraded laboratory facilities. The project also includes the provision of laboratory equipment to support teaching and research.
