Students plan to sue university over ‘unfair’ restructuring
A group of students at Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia are gearing up to take legal action against the institution, accusing it of making “unfair”, “non-voluntary” and “non-participatory” decisions in its plans for administrative restructuring, writes Yared Nigussie for The Reporter. The controversial move, which involves reducing the number of colleges and departments, has sparked outrage among students who claim their voices were ignored in the process. The students are currently mobilising a petition against the university’s decision.

The restructuring, part of Addis Ababa University’s broader autonomy process aimed at streamlining operations and gaining more independence in governance, has already seen several departments and colleges merged.
