Three Islamabad universities facing financial crisis

Three federally chartered universities in Pakistan are grappling with a severe financial crisis, struggling even to pay salaries and pensions, writes Rija Sohaib for ProPakistani.

The affected institutions – Quaid-i-Azam University, International Islamic University Islamabad and the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology – are facing difficulties due to insufficient funding from the Higher Education Commission.

According to sources, both the Higher Education Commission and the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training have requested the government to approve a supplementary grant of PKR2.5 billion (US$8.9 million) to address the crisis.
