Uproar over on-campus kidnapping of 4 female students

Four female students of Joseph Sarwan Tarka University, Makurdi, former Federal University of Agriculture, in Nigeria were abducted on campus by armed men on the night of Tuesday 25 February, writes Peter Duru for Vanguard.

This came as the Academic Staff Union of Universities demanded the immediate release of the kidnapped students, blaming the unfortunate development on the porous security architecture of the school.

A source, a student of the university, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that the four victims identified as Emmanuella, Fola, Susan and Ella, who reside on campus in Zamfara Hostel, were ambushed by five armed men about 8.30pm while on their way to one of the lecture halls to read. The source said there was pandemonium in the institution when the news filtered into the campus as the students trooped outside their hostels in protest and to confirm the actual victims of the incident.
