Over 23,000 men expelled from higher education – Minister

According to the Ukrainian News Agency, in the period April to August, 23,400 male students aged over 30 were expelled from higher education institutions, Deputy Minister of Education and Science Mykhailo Vynnytskyi announced on Facebook, reports Ukrainian News.

“The reasons for expulsion are failure, failure to attend classes, and other. A total of 5,805 applicants were expelled directly based on the results of inspections by the State Service for the Quality of Education; the rest were based on the results of the internal systems for ensuring the quality of education of the universities themselves,” Vynnytskyi said.

According to Vynnytskyi, those “students” who did not actually plan to study, but wanted to use this status to avoid other responsibilities, were expelled. The fact that they are no longer in the higher education system is a sign that the system is self-cleaning, he said. As the Ukrainian News Agency reported earlier, on 18 May, the law on mobilisation [to increase the number of soldiers] came into force, which cancels the deferral from mobilisation for applicants for another higher education.
