Türkiye and Egypt to establish joint university in Cairo

Erol Ozvar, president of the Higher Education Council in Türkiye, announced on Tuesday 5 November that Türkiye and Egypt will collaborate to establish a joint university in Cairo. The agreement was reached with Egypt’s Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, reports Türkiye Today.

Following a meeting in Cairo, Ozvar revealed that discussions were held with his Egyptian counterpart to strengthen bilateral cooperation. This initiative aligns with the Higher Education Collaboration Protocol signed during President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit in February.

“The Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education has responded positively to Türkiye’s proposal, and we have agreed to work together to establish a joint university,” said Ozvar. He described the agreement as “one of the most crucial steps taken by both states in recent years”. Ozvar indicated that a mutual council will be formed to oversee the process, with the names of the council members to be announced in due course.
