PM inaugurates new Indian Institute of Skills in Mumbai
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Indian Institute of Skills (IIS) in Mumbai, aiming to enhance youth employability and create an industry-ready workforce for Industry 4.0. The IIS, built on a four-acre campus at the National Skill Training Institute, focuses on cutting-edge technologies like factory automation, AI, data analytics and additive manufacturing, writes Piyush Shukla for Adda 247.Established under a public-private partnership between the Ministry of Skill Development and Tata IIS, it emphasises aligning Indian youth’s skills with global standards. The event also marked the launch of several development projects in Maharashtra worth over INR7600 crore (roughly US$1 billion).
IIS Mumbai reflects PM Modi’s vision of positioning India as a “skill capital of the world”, providing technical expertise to compete globally. Courses like advanced robotics, EV battery technology and additive manufacturing will enable students to meet the evolving demands of the global economy. The institute is a collaborative effort with over 15 global and Indian Original Equipment Manufacturers, offering hands-on training in state-of-the-art labs. It aims to create pathways for students in new-age industries such as electric vehicles, AI and robotics.
