Universities’ council stops all student election activities

The Kuwaiti Government Universities Council approved a memorandum on Monday 16 September suspending student election activities at all levels of higher education in government universities and colleges inside and outside Kuwait and other educational institutions, reports KUNA.

Acting Secretary-General of the Government Universities Council Hiba Al-Shatti said in a press statement following the meeting that the council discussed the items on its agenda and approved the decisions issued by the Government Universities Council.

Al-Shatti explained that the decision to suspend student election activities “comes as a result of the deviation from the basic objectives on which this union work was based, which reflects concern that the student electoral process no longer serves the public interest of students and does not promote the democratic values that it should represent”.
