German university opens in Cairo’s administrative capital

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier inaugurated the campus of the German International University (GIU) in the New Administrative Capital of Cairo on Thursday 12 September as part of his current visit to Egypt, the first by a German president in 25 years, reports MENA.

The GIU and the German University in Cairo (GUC) expressed, in a joint statement, their pride in the visit of the German president and his opening of the Gate of Hope, which symbolises cross-border education and embodies the principles of openness and the culture of global peace, and that education and science are the basis for a more just, peaceful and interconnected world.

The GIU aims to promote the German higher education system in Egypt, the Middle East, the African region and the world. The university also seeks to promote innovation in industry and economy in the region by strengthening partnership between Germany and its partners around the world, using the latest teaching methods, advanced curricula and modern technology.
