HE students can now access psychology, nutrition consults
Higher education students in Portugal can access psychology and nutrition consultations from 30 September under a programme that covers public and private institutions, the minister of youth told Agência Lusa.“Students can choose the professional they want to book an appointment with from a list provided by the orders,” highlighted the Minister of Youth and Modernisation Margarida Balseiro Lopes. “We currently have – on the list of professionals who have joined – 297 psychologists and 208 nutritionists,” added Lopes, highlighting that the orders were concerned with presenting “total territorial coverage” in order to cover the mainland and the islands.
Lopes said after the COVID-19 pandemic there was a 50% increase in demand for psychology consultations, with anxiety being the most common mental health problem among young people. In terms of nutrition, the minister cited a survey that revealed that there are currently only five nutritionists in all Portuguese higher education institutions.
