Universities under ‘threat’ from far right, academics warn
French universities have warned of the “immediate, real and unprecedented” threat posed by the National Rally after the far-right party won a victory in the first round of France’s snap two-round general election on 30 June, writes Polly Nash for The PIE News.In a joint statement with organisations across French higher education, France Universités said that if the National Rally (RN) is elected, it would compromise the reception of international students in France, threaten the independence of higher education and the autonomy of academic research.
Marine Le Pen’s far-right RN party won an unprecedented victory in the first round of France’s snap general election, securing its place as the biggest political party regardless of what happens in the second round of voting on 7 July.
