Science ministry announces new university ranking criteria

Iran’s Ministry of Science, Research and Technology has announced new criteria for ranking the country’s universities based on indices of the Islamic World Science Citation Center (ISC), reports Tehran Times.

The new criteria are related to “students, culture and society” as well as “management and productivity”, Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting quoted Ahmad Fazelzadeh, head of the ISC, as saying. Education (25%), research (20%), technology and innovation (15%), scientific and technological authority and diplomacy (15%), students, culture and society (15%), and management and productivity (10%) constitute the criteria.

In February, the ISC released the World University Rankings 2024 report, which includes 69 Iranian universities compared to 63 in 2022. A total of 377 universities from 29 Islamic countries were listed in the ranking. Turkey with 93 universities, and Iran with 69 universities ranked first and second respectively, Mehr News Agency reported.
