Universities look to consolidate tedious entrance exams
Prospective university students in Finland typically face different entrance exams for each school they apply to. But this may all change in the future, as there are plans to mainstream the application process, reports Yle. The change slated for 2025 would mean that people could apply to many universities and degree programmes on the basis of one test.Tanja Juurus of the University of Helsinki is leading the national reforms. She told Finnish news agency STT that the aim is to make the system better for applicants. At the moment, prospective students may have to travel to several different entrance exams across Finland and, at worst, cram for separate tests.
She told STT that the current system is limiting as not everyone can travel to multiple entrance exams around the country. Further exacerbating the problem is the fact that universities test applicants on different assigned materials.
