Over 10,000 allegedly stolen books found in university

Police in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh on 20 September claimed to have recovered “stolen” books from the library of Mohammad Ali Jauhar University, run by a trust headed by Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Azam Khan. These books were allegedly stolen from the 200-year-old madrasa alia, which belongs to the family of Rampur nawab, reports Times News Network.

Nearly 10,000 books were “taken away” from the institution in 2016, allegedly on the instruction of then cabinet minister Azam Khan, said police. A first information report (FIR) was registered in this case in 2019.

Additional SP Sansaar Singh, who conducted the raid at the university and razed a wall to recover the books, said the recovery has been made on the information provided by Mohd Anwar and Mohd Saalim – two friends of Azam's son, SP MLA Abdullah Azam – who were arrested three days ago for gambling on the basis of a viral video.
