French-speaking universities to limit indoor heating levels
In the face of rising energy prices, French-speaking universities in Belgium have decided to take collective action by limiting their room temperatures to 19°C, writes Lukas Taylor for The Brussels Times.The CRef body that reunites all of the French-speaking universities’ rectors has announced its plans to combat the ongoing energy crisis. In a press statement released on Thursday 15 September, it decried the “unmanageable rise in prices” on Belgians’ energy bills, as well the consequences of global warming.
While acknowledging that there are no quick solutions to the ever-rising energy prices, the universities are of the belief that a general reduction in energy consumption will help push these prices down. To that end, they have decided to limit the temperature of heated rooms in their universities to 19°C.
