New bill gives state control over university rector choice
Kyrgyzstan’s Ministry of Education and Science has tabled a bill that proposes that the current system of election of rectors by staff of universities be replaced with their appointment by the president, reports AKIpress.Minister Almazbek Beishenaliev said this at the meeting of the Social Policy Committee of the parliament. Rectors of four national universities will be appointed by the president while rectors of the remaining 29 public universities will be appointed by the Ministry of Education and Science.
The status of national university was assigned to the Kyrgyz National Agrarian University, Kyrgyz National University, Kyrgyz National Conservatory and the National Academy of Arts.
