Ministers hold talks on collaboration in education, research
Acting Afghan Higher Education Minister Abdul Baqi Haqqani on Monday 6 December began talks in Pakistan on possible cooperation between the two countries in the fields of education and research, writes Tahir Khan for Dawn.com.The minister is leading a delegation that arrived in Pakistan last Sunday amid calls for re-opening educational institutions for girls in Afghanistan. The Taliban’s Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has only opened girls’ schools up to sixth grade.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Afghanistan Mansoor Ahmad Khan told Dawn.com that positive momentum had continued in the interaction between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Khan said that the delegation led by the Afghan minister will explore further cooperation in the field of higher education and the universities of the two countries.
