12 to 15 new universities to enter service in 2022 – Minister

Egypt’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Khaled Abdel Ghaffar stated in a phone-in on Tuesday 17 August that 12 to 15 new universities will enter service in 2022, including campuses of foreign universities, reports Egypt Today.

The minister noted that 19 private universities have been established, and that one of them began operation in 2021. Further, there is a plan to build a university in the Red Sea region and another in South Sinai.

Abdel Ghaffar added that the new establishments include branches of foreign universities from the United Kingdom, the United States and others, and that those are located in the New Administrative Capital. Also, the new universities include technology ones, introduced for the first time in Egypt. Those are mainly targeted at students who graduated from technical schools, offering majors in ICT and manufacturing technologies.
