Ministry recommends remote education for fall semester

Turkey’s education ministry has recommended that all universities practise distancing measures during the 2020 fall semester to prevent further coronavirus infections, in a letter cited by T24 , reports Ahval News.

The ministry’s letter was a reply to the Higher Education Council (YÖK) requesting advice on how to organise the semester during Turkey’s outbreak, which state officials and medical experts fear will bring about a second wave of infections.

“In the fall semester of the 2020-2021 academic year, theory courses should be conducted remotely and utilise digital teaching methods as much as possible, and programmes where practical training is compulsory are to be postponed,” the letter read. If practical training courses cannot be postponed, faculty and students are advised to take necessary infection-preventing measures, including wearing protective personal equipment, the ministry said.
