Government forces students to attend anti-sanctions protest
Zimbabwe’s ZANU-PF government issued a circular instructing every university to release 500 students per campus to attend the anti-sanctions march scheduled for 25 October, writes Mandla Ndlovu for Bulawayo24.com.A circular to Bindura University said each campus was required to supply 500 students to attend the anti-sanctions march. Buses were to be made available by the universities to ferry students from the main campus at 7.30 am.
Social media influencer Mlungisi Dube said before the march that during his time at college it was not easy to convince students to participate in ZANU-PF activities. “It seems things have changed if the current batch of university students can be forced to attend a ZANU-PF lecture. Barely 12 years ago it was embarrassing to be known as a ZANU-PF cadre in most universities here in Zimbabwe,” Dube said.
