Agency ends inspection of nuclear research universities

Spokesperson of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Behrouz Kamalvandi said the United Nations nuclear watchdog will no longer inspect Iranian universities which conduct research on nuclear-related materials, reports Fars News Agency.

“There used to be certain issues with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspection of universities which were resolved and at present there is no issue with the inspection of the Agency's representatives of the universities,” Kamalvandi said. “We have been trying to end all Agency inspections of universities (and now this has happened) and therefore, there is no more problem with regard to the inspection of universities,” he added.

Iranian students have several times protested at uncalled inspections of universities and research centres by the IAEA. The inspections are made within the framework of the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and the world powers and the Additional Protocol to the Non-Proliferation Treaty.
