Universities ‘shut down cafeterias for Ramadan’

According to left-wing BirGün daily, Turkish students are protesting on social media after universities reportedly announced the closure of cafeterias during Ramadan, reports Ahval.

The Islamic holy month of Ramadan runs from 6 May to 4 June this year. More and more universities in Turkey in recent years have announced before Ramadan that they will close cafeterias during the holy month.

In Turkey’s metropolitan cities, as there are other places to eat, such decisions mean higher expenses for university students for 28 days. But for university students in smaller provinces, it means they have no options since local restaurants also shut down during Ramadan.
