Rajasthan University left with only 15 professors

Research at Rajasthan University has taken a back seat as the university now has only 15 professors, which is directly affecting the admission of students for PhDs. As a result, students have no option but to turn to private universities and spend large sums of money to pursue a PhD, reports The Times of India.

This situation has arisen because around 160 associate professors are waiting for promotions. Some faculty members have been due for promotion since 2012, but the university has not taken any step towards this goal. A professor is eligible to take eight PhD students, associate professors six and assistant professors four, respectively.

The university administration recently declared that all the newly recruited assistant professors are eligible to take PhD students. However, if the 160 associate professors are promoted, then around 320 students will benefit.
