Insurers eye universities to groom human capital
As Uganda prepares for minerals extraction, the demand for insurance professionals is expected to significantly increase, exerting a lot of pressure on the sector’s lean human capital, writes Edward Kayiwa for New Vision.Industry estimates put the number of professionals at 538, thus negatively affecting growth, which is currently at less than 1%. According to the Insurance Institute of Uganda, partnering with universities to sensitise students and design new courses will help in bridging the gap within the next four years.
“We already have a university that is ready to offer insurance as a discipline, and we shall work together to see that such efforts spread all over the country for the sake of the sector,” Soul Seremba, the institute’s chief executive, said.
