Government fast-tracks free education project

Less than a month before the end of the legislative period, the Chilean government was preparing to pass a bill in the Senate to establish free higher education as public policy, reports Prensa Latina.

According to the digital portal latercera.com, President of the Senate Committee on Education Ignacio Walker said the committee would do not rule out extending working sessions on Fridays and Saturdays if this was necessary. The government hopes that the initiative will be approved and promulgated before the end of the administration of Michelle Bachelet.

“If we have to work 10 hours on a Friday or Saturday, we will do it. This is what we did with the Inclusion Law in January 2015, so we have to do the job well and try to make this ship arrive at a good port,” Walker said.
