Education minister found guilty of plagiarism

According to unofficial reports, the Committee for Ethics in Science and Higher Education has found Croatian Minister of Science and Education Pavo Barisic guilty of plagiarism, writes Vedran Pavlic for Total Croatia News.

The committee found that Barisic had taken parts of a text of American philosopher Stephen Schlesinger while not quoting his sources, reports Jutarnji List. Four scientists reported Barisic in 2011 for plagiarism in an article published in the journal Synthesis Philosophica. The complaint stated that Barisic plagiarised several parts of other people's works, books and internet sources in his article in the English language “Does globalization threaten democracy”, which was published in the second issue of the magazine in 2008.

While the charges regarding Barisic’s plagiarism of Schlesinger are deemed undeniable, the committee did not agree on other issues. Schlesinger confirmed last year that he had received an apology from Barisic for copying parts of his text. The minister still categorically denied that he plagiarised anybody.
