Musician Prince to get posthumous honorary degree
Just call him ‘Dr Prince’. The late superstar never went to college but the University of Minnesota is going to posthumously give him an honorary doctorate of letters later this year, writes Maria Puente for USA Today.Details are still to come but the university said on its website the Board of Regents voted unanimously to award Prince an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from the College of Liberal Arts. The degree will be formally presented to Prince's family at a programme later this year. Although Prince's family is still to be fully determined by a Carver County probate court, his one known full sibling, Tyka Nelson, is likely to be there.
The university said it had been in the process of considering Prince for an honorary doctorate of musical arts even before he died on 21 April of an accidental overdose of a powerful painkiller, fentanyl.
