New enrolment policy confuses non-state universities

Non-state universities are concerned that they will not find students once the new enrolment policy is applied which allows universities to apply many different methods to enrol students, reports VietNamNet Bridge.

Under the draft enrolment policy for 2016 opened for public opinion, which the Ministry of Education and Training says aims to give greater autonomy to universities, they can enrol students based on high school finals, high school learning records and grade point average. A series of state-owned universities have announced they will enrol students based on high school learning records for certain training majors.

Non-state universities, which always need students, are concerned about the new policy. In principle, state-owned universities are ‘choosier’ in admitting students. Most of them only accept students who have high scores at high school finals and pass the university entrance tests or interviews. If state-owned universities also lower their requirements and enrol students based on school reports, non-state universities would not be able to compete for students with the state-owned universities.
