Half of national universities plan structural reforms
A total of 43 of the 86 national universities are set to carry out structural reforms, such as establishing new faculties and realigning existing ones, in the six years from fiscal 2016, reports Jiji Press.Of those, 26 will revamp their faculties for the humanities and social sciences, according to medium-term plans and targets drafted by the universities and unveiled last week by the education ministry.
It is the third time that the universities have compiled such plans since a system was introduced in fiscal 2004 in which each national university is run by a corporation. The system is supposed to result in the universities operating more efficiently and flexibly.
