CEO criticises quality of universities
Kenan Yavuz, the CEO of SOCAR Turkey, the Turkish arm of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic, said recently via his twitter account that the Higher Education Board, known as YÖK, has set up an unsustainable state of affairs among Turkish young people, claiming that he throws the CVs of university graduates in the garbage, reports Today’s Zaman. In a series of tweets Yavuz stated that YÖK should stop deceiving both families and students, pointing out that there are millions of Turkish university graduates but his company cannot find qualified workers. He lashed out at YÖK, saying, “In the next three years I will be hiring thousands of workers with professional training, but my door is closed to university graduates.”
Yavuz criticised YÖK for the present state of affairs, and said radical reforms should be made. He said YÖK does not ask businessmen about their needs as far as employment goes, and that the organisation acts according to its own wishes. He advised that higher education in the form of vocational schools should be promoted.
