PAKISTAN: Crackdown on postgraduate plagiarism

Pakistan's Higher Education Commission has asked all universities to provide it with an electronic copy of all theses submitted by postgraduate students, sources in the commission told The Nation. The sources also said the commission had directed universities to warn postgraduate students that plagiarism would result in their degrees being cancelled.

An Islamabad-based officer of the HEC, who did not want to be named, said all theses by PhD students were being uploaded onto the commission's website and could be checked by website visitors. He added that since the HEC had no system to upload or preserve theses written in languages other than English, university managements had been asked to monitor them strictly.
