Two technology universities agree on unique merger plan
National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (Taiwan Tech) and Hwa Hsia University of Technology have agreed to merge, the two schools said on Tuesday 11 April in a joint statement, write Hsu Chih-wei and Evelyn Kao for CNA.The two universities approved the merger plan during their school affairs meetings earlier that day. It will be the first merger between a public and private university in Taiwan, according to the joint statement. However, the plan still has to be reviewed and approved by the Ministry of Education.
Under the merger plan, Hwa Hsia, a private tertiary technical university located in Zhonghe District, New Taipei, will not enrol students for the 2023-24 academic year and will close after the 2025-26 academic year.
