The 64th NAFSA conference was held from 29 May to 1 June in Houston, Texas. The world’s largest international educators' gathering attracted more than 8,000 participants from 100 countries. University World News reports.
The “Regional Conference on Higher Education-Industry-Community Engagement in Asia” was held in Malaysia from 7-9 May, hosted by AsiaEngage. University World News was there.

The UK-based Observatory on Borderless Higher Education held its 2012 forum in Kuala Lumpur from 24-26 April, titled “New Players and New Directions: The challenges of international branch campus management”. The British Council held its annual “Going Global” international education conference in London from 13-15 March, attended by more than 1,000 delegates from around the world. University World News was there.
Universities Australia, the peak body representing the nation's universities, held its annual conference in Canberra last week. Geoff Maslen reports.

The year 2011 was a time of confusing and contradictory signals in the internationalisation of higher education. The OECD published data on increased international student mobility worldwide (3.7 million students) and the Institute of International Education and Council of Graduate Schools in the United States reported 5% growth in the number of international students going to America, with China and Saudi Arabia recording the biggest increases in mobility.
