Former vice-chancellor John Gyapong to be next ARUA head

A former vice-chancellor of the University of Health and Allied Sciences in Ho, Ghana, Professor John Owusu Gyapong, will take over as secretary general of the African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) when he retires at the end of July 2024, writes Abubakar Ibrahim for MyJoyOnline.

The ARUA board meeting at the University of Lagos on 14 November approved his appointment to succeed Professor Ernest Aryeetey, a former vice-chancellor of the University of Ghana.

Professor Gyapong is professor of clinical epidemiology. He is currently a visiting professor at the department of global health at Georgetown University, Washington DC. His main area of research is infectious disease epidemiology, especially neglected tropical diseases, and malaria.
