State to unveil new funding model for higher education

President William Ruto has announced that his administration will from May unveil a new funding model for universities and Technical and Vocational Training Institutions, writes Lindwe Danflow for The Star.

The president said the next cohort of learners who will be selected to join TVETs and universities will benefit from enhanced funds from May. Ruto said the government will next week announce the enhanced resources for institutions of higher learning that will see their allocations doubled.

Ruto, speaking on Saturday in Meru county, said there will be a new funding mechanism for higher institutions of learning. “The money that goes to technical training colleges and universities is currently low. We are going to double the resources that are going to our TVETS and universities so that we can eliminate the challenges in our institutions of higher learning,” Ruto said.
