Government raises loan amounts for middle-income students
Students from the lowest tier (M1) of the M40 (or middle household income group) in Malaysia will be entitled to full study loans under the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN), says Malaysia’s Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, reports The Star.Besides announcing the loan increase from 75% to 100%, the prime minister said the government also agreed to provide PTPTN borrowers in the M40 group loans to purchase laptops in a move to protect and safeguard the welfare of students.
“Believe me when I say this, the government will always look after the interests of students … Many more announcements will be made to ensure it will benefit them,” he said in his address at Semarak Patriotik IPT 2022 held at Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia.
