India asks Canada to fix visa delays affecting students
The Indian High Commission in Ottawa has asked the Canadian authorities to look into the problems faced by college students enrolled in Canadian universities, who are unable to join their academic courses due to delays in the processing of their visas and student permits, reports The Economic Times. It has also highlighted that the students had already deposited the required tuition fees. While Canadian universities have also raised concern with the relevant ministry, they have put in place contingency plans to support those incoming students who do not receive their study permit in time when term begins in September.
According to an advisory, some institutions will provide a remote option for students unable to reach Canada at the start of the term due to delayed visas. “Students can contact the university or institutions to find out which courses have a remote option, and to discuss their
options in case some do not,” the Indian High Commission in Ottawa said.
