Two students who protested banned from studying abroad
Having graduated from Bogazici University this semester, EE and BZ have been accepted to universities abroad. However, they will not be able to go on the grounds of international travel bans and other judicial control measures, writes Melisa Elcin Özcelikel for BIA News Desk.Since President and ruling Justice and Development Party Chair Recep Tayyip Erdogan appointed Melih Bulu as the rector of Bogazici University on 2 January, the protests against this appointment have been ongoing on different platforms for over six months.
Then students BZ and EE were also among the ones who protested Bulu’s appointment. They were taken into custody during the protests at the South Campus on 2 February. Even though they were released from detention, an international travel ban and judicial control measures were imposed on them when they appeared before the judge on 4 February.
