Students forced to sign no-alcohol, no-drugs declaration
Students being admitted to Jadavpur University in India this academic year will have to sign a declaration that they will not consume narcotic substances or drink liquor on university premises and in hostels, a senior university official said, reports the Press Trust of India.Admission to arts, science and engineering courses at the university were set to begin this week. “Candidates of all the three streams will have to sign the written undertaking,” engineering department Dean Professor Chiranjib Bhattacharjee said.
The decision comes after students were reportedly found consuming alcohol and taking drugs on the campus, following which the administration regulated the entry of outsiders. There were also incidents of narcotic and alcohol abuse in the hostels.
