Can’t cancel PhD over fake claim, Panjab University told
A committee formed by the Panjab University vice-chancellor to review the decision to cancel the PhD registration of a scholar whose sexual harassment complaint was found to be fake has found that there is no rule in the university’s calendar to cancel the registration on the basis of any “non-academic reason”, writes Vishakha Chaman for the The Times of India. The committee has further suggested that the decision to cancel the PhD registration of the candidate should be reviewed. It also suggested that a suitable committee be constituted to interact with the candidate to settle the case.
The committee was asked to cover all issues related to that case, including the police complaint in the matter, action to be taken since the complaint was found to be fake, the issue related to the jurisdiction of the complaint and the complainant’s representation against the former vice-chancellor Professor Arun Kumar Grover. The Panjab University Committee Against Sexual Harassment had found the complaint false in 2017.
