Universities in trouble over alleged fee violation
Some colleges and universities are in trouble with the Fee Regulatory Committee headed by Justice DV Shylendra Kumar, which has issued notices to 15 deemed universities and private universities in Karnataka state for allegedly breaching the fee structure set by the committee, reports Bangalore Mirror. The committee had capped fee hikes at 8% for professional courses in institutions that furnished details of their accounts and balance sheet. However, the deemed universities and private universities have argued that they come directly under the University Grants Commission and the state or the fee regulatory committee has no jurisdiction over them.
Justice Kumar said these institutions fall under the Karnataka Professional Education Institutions (Regulation of Admission and Determination of Fee) Act 2006. “Considering this, we have issued notices and most of them are yet to reply,” he said.
