Universities must uphold standards – Commission
The Higher Education Commission has directed all higher education institutions in Pakistan to uphold their academic standards in order to ensure quality education and fulfilment of all the requisite criteria in quantitative and qualitative terms, reports Pakistan Today. In a letter issued to vice-chancellors, rectors and directors of all public and private universities, the commission expressed concern that certain universities announced admissions and admitted students three to four times a year and even enrolled students in summer programmes which are meant only for improvement of the courses and fulfilment of deficiency.
Referring to financial regulations, the Higher Education Commission has advised the universities to maintain proper and dedicated bank accounts for students’ fee transactions. The universities have been urged to ensure all fee transactions go through the official bank accounts instead of collecting fees in cash or through any other method.
