Highly-ranked state university will mentor others

One of India's top 10 institutions, Savitribai Phule Pune University, will mentor other universities in the state of Maharashtra to help them fare better in the National Institutional Ranking Framework, reports The Times of India.

Maharashtra Governor C Vidyasagar Rao, Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis and vice-chancellors of all universities met in Mumbai recently to discuss the rankings. The fact that only one university had a better position was a worry for the education department. It was then decided to study how Savitribai Phule Pune University had prepared and where it scored and take guidance.

The rankings for 2018 were released by the ministry of human resource development. Among the universities, Savitribai Phule Pune University is in the ninth spot, up from last year’s 10th. “We received enquiries from other institutes and universities about how we prepared. The state government has instructed us to guide colleges and universities and study points on which they could improve to have better rankings,” Vice-chancellor Nitin Karmalkar said.
