Private higher education institutions set up association

The Association Camerounaise des Instituts Privés de l’Enseignement Supérieur (Cameroonian Association of Private Higher Education Institutes), or ACIPES, was launched in Douala by about 30 promoters from towns including N’Gaoundéré, Bafoussam, Dschang, Yaoundé, Nkongsamba, Douala, Mbalmayo and Ebolowa, reported Camer.be of Brussels.

They set up ACIPES for mutual consultation and cooperation to promote and develop professional, technical and artistic higher education in Cameroon, following similar action in other countries including Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Mali and Benin, reported Camer.be.

The launch meeting was presided over by Prince Emmanuel Ngassa Happi, promoter of ISTTAM, the Institut Supérieur de Transport, de Tourisme, des Affaires et de Management in Douala. Gabriel Raoul Djankou Nkuissi, promoter of ISMAM, the Institut Supérieur de Management de Manengouba in Nkongsamba, and a former senior United Nations official, was elected general secretary; and the president of ACIPES is Joseph Nguepi, promoter of ISTTI, the institute of technology in Douala.

Initial items of interest for ACIPES include preparation for the forthcoming forum of education; a change of tax regime for private higher education institutes in Cameroon; and organisation of national days of higher education which will take place before the end of the year. Members also plan to work closely with associations from other countries, reported Camer.be.
