President declares anti-graft war on universities

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed a readiness to purge Nigerian universities of corruption and other related unwholesome practices damaging public higher institutions, reports The Guardian Nigeria.

Buhari, who dropped the hint at the 33rd convocation ceremony of Bayero University Kano, disclosed that the federal government is concerned about the financial recklessness and high handedness of some university authorities. He said appropriate disciplinary action would be meted out to anyone found guilty.

The president, who spoke through the executive secretary of the National Universities Commission, Professor Abubakar Adamu Rasheed, said government had received a series of petitions and reports alleging financial recklessness against university management, saying government is studying the document.
