Winding up discussions on a resolution to establish women’s universities in each district, the minister said it is priority of the government to have women’s universities in each district and the Higher Education Commission has prepared a comprehensive plan in this regard. The minister said at present there are 14 women’s universities in the country.
Regarding allocations for education, the minister said the present government had increased allocations for education to PKR800 billion (US$7.6 billion) in 2016 from PKR500 billion (US$4.8 billion) in 2012-13, while for universities the allocation had been increased to PKR91 billion from PKR41 billion in 2012-13. “In this way the overall allocation for education has been enhanced to around 2.5% of the GDP [gross domestic product] as compared to 1.9% in 2012-13.”
