Educators council reports rise in fraudulent lecturers

Cases of fraudulent educators at tertiary level have increased for the year 2016, the South African Council for Educators announced at a press briefing in Pretoria last week on the misconduct of educators, writes Lizeka Tandwa for News24.

The South African Council for Educators or SACE is responsible for the registration of educators. The council’s chief operations officer Matseliso Dipholo said universities that are being targeted by fraudsters include the University of Zululand, UNISA and North-West University.

She singled out the University of Zululand as having been found by the council to have a "massive number" of fraudulent educators. At least 20 educators at the university are being prosecuted for fraud, she said. The educators in question were registered with SACE.
